Note that as an Fkey if will do these things even if you are running an application; Handy if you want to save a file to a floppy and have none with enough space available. I seem to use this utility very frequently. Since I started this piece I got a Macintosh IIci. FlashFormatter doesn't like either the IIci, or (more likely) System version 6.0.4. Oh well...............
New Sound Manager for System 7.0
The new sound system will allow loading and playing of of multiple channels of sound simultaneously. You could then have a background sound with a voice over for example. It would seem this would allow true stereo (as opposed to the same sounds from two speakers as I now have), but I don't know that it will. The system will also

Jim Heid is a contributing editor for MacWorld. I bought this since all my "about the Mac" type books were quite old, and I wanted some more up-to-date reference material that would cover new systems, color, sound, etc. This book seems to be about the right depth and coverage I wanted.
